About the Episode

My guest this week is former work colleague of mine, Kaska Adoteye. Kaska has quite the story. When he was nineteen, he was diagnosed with a rare brain disease called an arteriovenous malformation, also known as AVM. This diagnosis was a lot to process because this AVM is something that could end his life at any moment.  While it is true that everyone lives with the reality that each day that we’re here, we’re one more day closer to not being here, most people don’t have a medical diagnosis that brings that to the top of your consciousness every day like this. In this conversation with Kaska, we learn more about some of the personal stories that he shares in his book Theory of Mind and learn about how he’s approaching life as a person with the clarity of how precious every day really is.

He has taken his skills from Wall Street to Silicon Valley and is known for his technical excellence across domains. He is also the author of the thought-provoking and insightful book Theory of Mind. The book, among other things, follows his story of discovering he has a rare and potentially lethal brain malformation, as well as the failed journey to treat it. The experience left him rattled, but also allowed him to gain empathy, compassion, and get closer to those around him.
