About the Episode

In this interview, educator Bobby Morgan talks about how he freed himself from the toxicity of chasing acceptance in places he was taught to value that did not value him back. Bobby shares with how he goes about healing the wounds of his youth, deepening his understanding of history, and making an impact in healthier ways that he did in his past.

Bobby and I discuss the mixed feelings we both have related to both Father’s Day and Juneteenth. One of my favorite quotes from the interview. It reminds me that what is said to you and about you is only part of the story. Don’t let the labels of the world tell you what your work is. Work in reality and truth. (You free? Picture Bane with his hand on your shoulder asking you “Do you feel free?” IYKYK)

The good brother also shared some great food for thought related to actually living out the things we say we are about. Actually checking to see if you are having the impact you mean to have, particularly if you aim to help other folks in their liberation and celebration. Would those people say they feel like you are helping and celebrating? Have you asked? Welp! You might wanna.
