This week on YOU Better! I took a moment to share learnings from my own life regarding my evolving relationship with the concept of being resilient. I’ve grappled with this one for a while. I used to pray for resilience. But now I’m thinking about what it means to be a happy and full-hearted ME alongside coming to terms with life as a Black woman, and my growing understanding of the generational inheritance of trauma in America. It’s not always as straightforward as “be more resilient.”
I still have so much understanding to unpack. So much healing to do. And from time to time, I’ll pop up with more solo episodes to updated on how it’s going. I’m excited to keep asking more questions and doing more work to free myself from unreasonable and harmful expectations of endurance in a constant battle. There are moments when I don’t have more fight in me. And when I don’t, I’mma go lay down.
Because sometimes I think I need resilience when what I really need is safety, peace and rest.
