About the Episode

During her twenties, Shaya Lyon lived in an area rife with battle and conflict.  In this episode of YOU Better!, Shaya – a descendent of both a blacklisted physicist and a Holocaust survivor – shares about her upbringing as a young woman who was raised with a charge to make the world better.  Some in the classical music scene might know Shaya as the founder of a nonprofit organization called the Live Music Project. For me, Shaya is also a very dear friend full of global perspective, earnest curiosity, and sincere compassion. Tune in to hear Shaya outline the ways she supports herself so she can have her dreams and how she allows herself to matter enough that she can hear those dreams in the first place.

Shaya shares these words, which I needed to hear as well.  “Even if you don’t live in a war weary region, there is likely something else that can feel weighty and big going on that can make your needs feel small in comparison. And it can make your ability to make change in your life and your world feel impossible. Just know that you CAN matter.”

The entire conversation was a beautiful view of a woman with a heart for making the world better who finds a way to also let herself be relevant in the process.

About Shaya Lyon

Shaya Lyon is a photographer, writer, and non-profit leader based in Seattle.

Shaya’s formal bio would say things like “studied philosophy and linguistics,” “edited a major daily newspaper,” “designed web interfaces for digital search tools,” and “founded and directed an arts non-profit.”

The unifying element of Shaya’s experiences: all of these paths involve ways of connecting people with information.
